This is the way the world ends...well, this is ten ways the world ends. In her debut anthology, author Kirsten Couch chronicles ten accounts of the apocalypse. Stories From The End of the World is a new addition to the great science fiction short stories tradition of Ray Bradbury, Kurt Vonnegut, and Harlan Ellison. From disease epidemics to parallel universes colliding, follow along as survivors navigate different apocalypses. Grace, eleven years old, struggles to fit in with her cult-like culture after global flooding claims the world in an event they call the Drowning. An elderly woman urges her family to be thankful for their farmhouse barricade amidst conflict and infighting in the diseased world around them. In deep space, A twenty-something battles with her role in humanity as one of the middle children (someone who wasn't born on earth...someone who won't live to see the new earth). With each story there's a new apocalypse and a new survivor; the only thing they have in common is their shared humanity. Captivating and powerful, Stories From The End of The World is an honest look at humankind and what it means to be alive.

I took a risk purchasing this, I was just looking for another apocalypse anthology after reading the amazing and highly recommended Defying Doomsday and I can say proudly that I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I actually felt quite proud of the author for how well written, diverse and interesting the whole book was. Each end of the world was entirely different than the last even though there was only one author. Each story had a multitude of characters that were completely individual. Most importantly, to me at least, the book featured strong women characters, queer characters, and characters of color - something I did not expect to find and was so pleased especially because they were just a part of a well rounded character not some stereotype.
