The chick friends rules! Junior year Vici Howard Books

Grant is still a likeable character, even when he does really bad things. I don't want to like him but I do. I understand why he does the bad things he does and he's starting to understand himself better. His relationship with Shauna is fascinating. I'm surprised that she was developed into such an important character when she was nothing more than an "extra" in freshman year but in junior year she has come from behind as an underdog to become a scene stealer. Poor Marta still can't catch a break and Yasmine; whooa, I did't see that one coming; but looking back in retrospect from freshman year and sophomore year, he had tendencies in his personality and it all makes sense now. Brilliant how that part of his personality was nothing more than a sentence or two in the first two books but exploded into the driving story line in junior year. And it makes you go back and read freshman year and sophomore year to find the parts of the book that explains what happened in junior year. The series plays mindgames with the reader and I like the ride.

This is definetly a series that I will have to reread, because it keeps getting deeper. I can't wait for Senior year to come out.

The chick friends rules! Junior year Vici Howard Books Reviews

Junior year is the climax of the series. Grant, the main character has officially lost it. I read this book in 4 hours, I couldn't put it down. Grant has major psychological issues that has been building since freshman year and he finally reveals himself. My mouth hung open the whole time. He meets Yasmine; a new girl and does something horrific. There was a very disturbing part that left me shaking my head. The writing is ingenious because the story comes to a head and I realized something has been brewing in Grant since freshman year but it was so subtle that I didn't realize it until I read junior year; the author was planting clues about the character's personality all along. Junior year will have you going back to the other two books to piece together the puzzle. Weirdo.
I didn't think Grant could get any worse. HE GOT WORSE!!!!! I can't believe this kid. I liked him in freshman year, he was a jerk in sophomore year but he's a class A creep in junior year.
I'm not going to give away the good part but the meat of junior year is he meets this girl Yasmine and they have an "encounter", he panics and freaks the hell out and does something so awful, I mean horrible, terrible awful that it takes the whole book for him to recover. Just when I thought he learned his lesson by the end of the book he's a class A creep again. His poor girlfriend Marta goes through a difficult time and while she's put in a humbling predicament; Grant, her class A creep of a boyfriend is off doing all kinds of things with all kinds of girls. The author keeps trying to make him human by adding in these sensitive moments where the reader feels sorry for him but I'm not buying it.
I'm starting to like his ex-girlfriend Shauna and her metamorphosis from freshman year to junior year. Freshman year she was a forgettable character, a one time hook-up added for fluff. The author brought her back sophomore year and added some depth to the character and in junior year she's a force to be reckoned with. She is the only girl in the entire series that can control bow wow doggie Grant.
I LOVE LEAR, Grant's best friend. I have a crush on him. He still has dreads but he's a reformed pot smoker and now that he has a surprise love interest he's gone from stupid rocker kid to sweet musician who plays love songs on his guitar. Grant loves Lear too, they truly have a bromance going on and it's nice to see boys can have a close relationship with their besties also.
This series has become my guilty pleasure but I still can't give it 5 stars because I'm a woman and there's a high level of misogyny that goes on in the chick friends franchise which I don't understand since the author is a woman. but her writing is kick ass. I think these books are for older tenns, not middle-schoolers because there's teens having sex.
