For years various lists of the best paying jobs in America have included Occupational Therapist and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. As evidence of these growing occupations, the 70 million Baby Boomers are often mentioned. Unfortunately, what is not mentioned is how the therapy will be paid for. As factories relocate for cheaper labor sources, stranded Americans are encouraged to enter healthcare because “the need is so great”. More and more, therapists graduate and are not able to get a job as quickly as they are led to believe. They are competing with more experienced therapist for fewer jobs.
Today companies are in the driver’s seat. They demand a lot from their therapists, and if a new graduate or an old pro can’t cut it, they have a stack of resumes to choose from. What makes a therapist successful is not how much they know about splinting or NDT, it’s their job skills to be productive, profitable, and a team player. Schools are just beginning to teach these latter skills. The following pages include a no nonsense taste of the reality of working in the therapy world. It will help a new grad compete in a tough labor market.

Great for new OTs and new OTAs!! Very informative with some basics and worth the 30 min it takes to read!
I am still in school, but this was a great book to learn about the field for when I graduated. Easy read and isn't long.
I appreciate the author's no nonsense advice regarding the current state of the Occupational Therapy job market. The book includes some very good questions new grads should ask on interviews and provides a quick overview of important job skills.
